Hi, I'm Dave Johnston

I work across record production, higher education, and creative technology. Drawing on two decades of live performance, studio recording, and mixing, I’m deeply interested in creative momentum - how musicians sustain focus and overcome the technical challenges of making modern records.

This intersection of theory and practice informed my doctoral research into music production workflows and continues to shape my work as a Senior Lecturer at SAE Creative Media Institute. Beyond the classroom and studio, I developed The Music Factory Suite, a web application designed to simplify project management for artists and producers. I also publish a Substack newsletter featuring practical insights, production techniques, and candid explorations of the creative process.
